Inaugurating Barbados’s First Fully Self-Service Restaurant
Falling in line with Goddard Enterprises Limited's tradition of innovation and ingenuity, the international corporation has recently implemented XPR POS+'s technology at their Island Grill's restaurant in Grantley Adams International Airport of Barbados (GAIA). While impressive on its own, this accomplishment also makes Goddard Enterprises Limited the first to launch an entirely self-service restaurant in Barbados and the first to offer mobile phone payment.
With the customer experience in mind, Goddard Enterprises Limited looked for a solution that would be more accessible, efficient, and user-friendly. With over 2 million passengers traveling through GAIA each year, GEL knew it would need to alleviate long queues and felt that it would be the ideal location to implement the self-service kiosk technology. The Island Grill's self-service system includes two self-ordering kiosks and two tabletop tablets. Each of these comes equipped with a credit card processor that supports all major credit card and mobile phone (Apple/Samsung/Android Pay) payments. The addition of mobile phone payments makes Island Grill the only location in Barbados to offer this option. The payment processing is supported by Shift4 Payment Solutions, a gateway between the consumer and the bank, which adds double encryption for safety.
There is no longer a need to wait in traditional lines, customers may now sit and place their order on the table tablets. Once placed, the order is submitted to the Island Grill kitchen and a ticket number is generated. The technologically-advanced method allows for the order to appear on the kitchen display screens which allows staff to streamline food preparation. When the meal is ready, the corresponding ticket number is moved to "Order Ready" on the Order Display screen which indicates it is available for pick-up at the main counter. The new option allows customers to sit and relax at the table opposed to standing in line.
Implementing XPR POS+'s technology at Goddard Enterprises Limited's Island Grill's outlet at (GAIA) is a prominent example of their reputation for portraying individuality and progressiveness. Loving Our Values In 2019
In the beginning of June 2019, Goddard Enterprises Limited enlisted the help of their employees located across the globe to participate in activities that represented inclusivity and cohesion. After each monthly value was presented, every GEL location was encouraged to participate in events that represented each core value.
GEL’s very first value was presented in June: Inspirational Leadership. This value was set to inspire GEL leaders and bring about a sense of direction and purpose for their employees. At GEL, Inspirational Leadership means having the courage to make progressive decisions that will shape the future. While one only month celebrated Inspirational Leadership, GEL employees ensure that every day of work is filled with inspiration and positivity. For the month of July, GEL celebrated one of their favorite core values, Service Excellence. Across all GEL locations, employees discussed their personal meaning of service excellence and how they demonstrate this value through their actions at work. August’s core value was Accountability, something that each department promotes not only during this month but always. Accountability is crucial to uphold, as it is the keystone for a transparent and honest enterprise. We are elated that our employees feel the same way!
The values featured in September and October, Continuous Improvement and Innovation, align with GEL’s core values that guide all business ethics and decision making. This team bonding created by the Loving Our Values is the perfect example of how GEL is striving to improve and innovate within the workplace and work culture.
In November a few of the GEL locations collaborated in team-building exercises. For the entirety of the month, Paraguay and Ecuakao performed personal exercises that showed what the value Integrity meant to them. Click here to see their efforts!

Wellness Wednesday Initiative Launched in February 2020
Recently, Goddard Enterprises Limited has commenced a new initiative for its employees: Wellness Wednesday. GEL's company values include Accountability, Service Excellence, Dedication, Inspirational Leadership, Integrity, Innovation, and Continuous Improvement - all fostered through a supportive work environment. After GEL's employees expressed interest in participating in more health-conscious activities, Wellness Wednesday was born.
On Wednesdays, employees enjoy Brain Wellness Trivia at Dippers, building a fun and exciting environment for learning more about personal health. One of the first topics of discussion was managing stress and anxiety, with helpful tips and tricks including mindfulness and handling emotions. Employees were also invited to take a trip to the Holder Market Hastings, offering local produce at reasonable prices. Bi-monthly newsletters will be sent to each employee, covering the latest trends and topics in health.
While the company-wide Wednesday events are held weekly, the new initiative doesn't stop there - with optional activities offered through the weekend. During weekends in February, employees are invited to take a trip to the Brighton Farmers Market on Saturdays and Holder Market Hastings on Sundays. While both offer affordable fresh produce, the markets aren't limited to just food, as an eclectic collection of local art, photography, jewelry, baskets, plants, woodwork, soaps and much more are also available. On Sundays, GEL is hosting yoga, hiking, and a country breakfast at Naniki. Employees will enjoy delicious food while overlooking Naniki's hillside perch, offering stunning views of rolling hills, countryside villages, and the renowned Caribbean waterfront. For the ultimate team bonding activity, GEL is holding a Barbados National Trust Hike, allowing staff to have intimate conversations and discussions, getting to know each other better while taking in the surrounding natural beauty.
Certain special events will be held throughout the month as well - including comedy shows, family walks, and creative writing and yoga retreats.

No matter what your health interest is, there is something for everyone. The success of this new initiative is apparent, proven by a GEL employee who is no longer required to take medication to manage her NCD. Every employee who participated thus far has found that they are making better lifestyle decisions and are now back in control of their lives and health.

GEL COMPANIES CONTRIBUTE TO CREATION OF MURAL TO HIGHLIGHT
BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
Goddard Enterprises Ltd (GEL) and its subsidiaries Purity Bakeries and Marshall Trading recently joined forces and resources with CIBC FirstCaribbean Bank to fund the design and painting of a mural to recognise, commemorate and celebrate women, and men too, who are suffering or have died from breast cancer.
The mural, located on Collymore Rock, just past Purity Bakeries and just around the corner from the Breast Screening Programme of the Barbados Cancer Society, is designed to create awareness and offer support with encouraging words and two colourful stylised figures of women under the bus stop, which is located in the centre of the wall.
The design was conceptualised by artist Shane Eastmond, and he was assisted, in the production, by a number of present and past Art students of the Parkinson Memorial Secondary School which has been adopted by GEL since 2018.
