Sunday 8th January, 2017, will stand out forever in the minds of members of staff of Jamaica Dispatch Services Limited (JDSL), who visited with the wards at Jamaica Christian Boys’ Home. Situated on Oxford Road in Kingston, the home provides accommodation for twenty-five (25) boys, ranging in age from 12 to 18 years.
The initiative was the brainchild of some members of staff, who were anxious to give back to the community, especially during the festive season. Donations were solicited from staff and members of the wider Airport family and the response was overwhelming. Of special note, was the contribution of lunch on the day of the visit, which was provided by Goddard Catering Group (GCG). The obvious care taken in preparing the scrumptious meal was greatly appreciated.
The afternoon was spent interacting with the boys, getting to know them, and hearing of their individual experiences living together at the home. JDSL staff engaged in games of dominoes, chess, cards and many other activities with the boys. Staff members were also taken on a tour of the facility.
By the time it was time to leave, many relationships had been forged and plans are in place for another visit in April.
Thanks to Michael Freckleton, Jhenelle White, Shoy Francis, Russhana Francis-Napier, and Omar Harris who visited with the boys and all others who contributed to the success of the project.
